Tarot Advice

 April, 2009

Dear Frances

We have opened our home to a dear friend who lost his job and eventually his apartment. So on Christmas Day he came to stay on a few days after - moved in his stuff. He has done some part-time work and given us about $150.00, but contractor/remodeling work is not coming his way. Currently, he is still here, unemployed and it is as if we have a 45 year old teenage boy.

He has recently reconnected with an old love of from college days who is living in New York (we live in Kentucky). When he knew her in college and they had a really great relationship - but she was really driven in school and getting her career in education going, so when he met his future ex-wife (who wanted home, kids, etc) he went with her and has been divorced several long years - but remains on good terms with the ex.

Anyway - he is like a high school boy in love. They are getting together for a long weekend in Philadelphia this week and I am hoping he will make that love connection and move to New York to be with her. Other wise, we are going to have to ask him to look at getting a job and getting outta here within the next few weeks.

 Any advise in the cards?

Namaste, Annette

 Dear Annette,

Your first card, the 9 of Cups, indicates that your house guest has had it pretty good at your house.  You have made things very easy and comfortable for him; he's not in any real hurry to get out. Therefore, he's been extremely relaxed about getting work; there's work out there, but he's taking his time and being choosy about it -- because he can! He's very, very content at your house.

Your second card, 10 of Swords, can be taken a couple of ways, both probably equally valid. The first interpretation would be that it would take an incredibly dramatic, black and white event to get him out of there.  The kind of clear cut event that leaves no room for doubt. The event will be painful to watch and to endure.  The other interpretation possibly applies to both you and your houseguest. Biddy at www.biddytarot.com suggests that the 10 of swords might show up when someone has a victim mentality. Here you are, feeling taken advantage of (and you are, of course!); there he is, a victim of circumstance and the economy.

For the last card, you have The Tower Reversed. I believe that it's time to jump ship with this guest, in an orderly and planned way.  By planning it, you can avoid some of the chaos and hurt feelings that are certain to follow.  This man needs a shake up to get him going and it may be up to you to provide it. He will probably not want to hear what you are saying and will probably say it's not his fault he doesn't have a job yet. You will need to plan for his objections and have ready answers.
